FAQ: Plaid Update

We’re excited to roll out Plaid as a new account connection option in Piere! Below are answers to common questions about how this update will affect your data, customizations, and overall experience.

What happens to my old connection via MX? #

When you connect a new account with a new provider, nothing will automatically be done to any of the data and connection with the other provider. This will result in duplicate connections, accounts, and transactions. To resolve this, you would need to either hide the accounts from the old connection, remove the old connection completely, or migrate the data from the old connection to the new one. Note: the migration functionality is coming soon and not currently available. Therefore, we recommend hiding the old accounts in the meantime.

What happens to my net worth?

Because your connections, accounts, and transactions will be duplicated. The value from the newly added account will be included in your net worth. To resolve this, we recommend hiding the duplicate accounts from your net worth until you can migrate the account data over.

Will my transaction customizations be lost? #

No. Any transaction edits you’ve made (renames, recategorizations, notes) will carry over. Your customizations live in Piere, not the aggregator, so reconnecting accounts through Plaid will not overwrite them.

What about my transaction rules? #

Your rules will remain in place. For example, if you set “Starbucks” to always go under “Coffee Shops,” that rule will still apply to transactions after your accounts are connected via Plaid.

I renamed an account. Will that be updated? #

No. If you renamed an account in Piere (e.g., “Chase Checking” → “Vacation Fund”), you will need to re-enter that nickname on the account after connected to Plaid.

Will this affect MyPlan or Moves? #

Potentially, yes! When a new account is connected or removed, Piere will automatically generate a new plan for you. Any material changes will be proposed to you on the MyPlan page.

Will this affect my Budget? #

No. Your budget setup will remain intact. Categories, rollover settings, and spending limits will stay as you’ve configured them. Plaid transactions will continue feeding into your budget automatically and you can always use transaction rules or manual editing to modify any transaction categories.

Do I need to reconnect all my accounts? #

Yes. Since this update switches from MX to Plaid as the , you will need to reconnect your institutions one time through the Plaid flow. We’ll guide you step by step so the process is as smooth as possible.

Will I lose historical transactions or balances? #

Potentially. Historical data already in Piere will stay put. Plaid will begin feeding new data going forward, and your past data will continue to display seamlessly in your reports, budgets, and trends.

What if Plaid doesn’t support my institution? #

Most major banks and credit unions are supported, but if you can’t find your institution in Plaid’s search, please let us know. We’ll request supporting your institution.

What if I notice duplicate transactions or accounts? #

During migration, some overlap may occur. If it does, you’ll be prompted to prioritize one data source (just like in our CSV import flow). Piere will automatically clean up duplicates based on your selection.

Will I need to re-verify my MFA (multi-factor authentication)? #

Yes. For security, Plaid requires MFA the first time you connect. After that, refreshes should work automatically unless your bank requires MFA each login.
