Backfill historical balance data for reconnected bank accounts

When a user reconnects a bank or investment account through Plaid, the net worth graph resets to the current balance at the time of reconnection – it does not carry over any historical balance history. This causes visible jumps or flat lines in the net worth chart at reconnection points, making the historical graph unreliable for tracking actual financial progress over time.

Users are requesting that Piere investigate whether historical balance data can be backfilled for connected accounts – either by fetching available historical data from the data provider at the time of linking, or by offering a way to import/manually enter balance history for connected accounts at key past dates.

Affected institutions commonly cited include Bank of America, Fidelity Investments, E*Trade, Wells Fargo, and others. This particularly affects users who have reconnected accounts during a provider migration or after a connection error.
