When setting a monthly budget for a category, it would be helpful to see a calculated average of actual spending in that category over a selectable time period – for example, the last 3 months, 6 months, year-to-date, or the past year. This would make it much easier to set realistic budget targets based on real historical spending patterns, rather than estimating from memory. The time period selector could appear in the budget category editor or as a summary view within the budget section.
