When you connect your bank or credit card account to Piere, we rely on a secure technology called an account aggregator, or account data provider, to help bring your financial information into one place. Here’s how it works—and why some banks may not yet be supported.
What’s an account aggregator? #
Think of an aggregator as a secure bridge between your financial institution and Piere. It lets you see your balances, transactions, and account details all in one view, without having to log into each bank separately.
The aggregator connects with thousands of banks, credit unions, and card issuers, then delivers that data to Piere in a safe, standardized way.
How does it connect to my bank? #
When you link an account, you’ll be redirected to your bank’s login page or a secure portal where you sign in directly with your institution. The aggregator doesn’t store your actual credentials. Instead, it exchanges a secure “token” that allows it to retrieve read-only information like:
- Account balances
- Recent transactions
- Basic account details
This process is highly encrypted and meets the same security standards used by leading financial institutions.
Why aren’t all institutions supported? #
Some banks don’t yet provide a way for aggregators to connect safely. This can happen because:
- The bank hasn’t adopted modern connection standards like OAuth
- Their systems are older or more restrictive
- They’ve chosen not to allow third-party connections at all
In those cases, we can’t guarantee a reliable or secure connection, so we don’t support them until a stable solution is available. Even some institutions that were once supported can become unavailable to you if they change how they handle third-party connections.
How are supported institutions prioritized? #
Aggregators focus first on:
- The largest and most widely used banks
- Institutions that already have secure, standardized connection methods
- Providers that have strong customer demand
Over time, more connections are added based on popularity, technical feasibility, and security requirements. If your bank isn’t currently supported, it may simply be in line for future integration as the aggregator expands coverage.
What if my bank isn’t available? #
If your bank isn’t yet supported, you can still manually track key information in Piere. We’re always working with our partners to expand coverage, and as soon as new institutions become available, you’ll be able to connect them instantly. Additionally, we are bringing on an additional account aggregator for coverage redundancy.
